Educational Facilities for Students
St Patrick’s College is committed to providing all students with first class educational opportunities, delivered by committed and enthusiastic teachers in facilities that incorporate emerging technologies to enhance learning outcomes for each student. In 2003 the College promulgated its ten year Building Master Plan to guide the development of educational facilities for students and staff for the next decade.
Stage 1 of the Master Plan was completed in 2004 with the opening of the Br WJ Wilding Senior School, a state of the art teaching and learning complex for the College’s Year 10-12 students. Stage 1 of the Plan incorporates 22 new teaching and learning classrooms, staff and faculty offices and the Edmund Rice Student Services Building, a ‘one stop’ student assistance resource featuring Student Counsellors, Pastoral Care support, Careers Counselling, Student Reception and Sickbay.
The cost of Stage 1 of the Building Master Plan was $6.5 million which was funded by the College through parent contributions and external borrowings.
In September 2006 the College will embark upon Stage 2 of the Master Plan with the re-development of the Br Miller Wing, which incorporates the College’s science and technology laboratories. The College has acquired a Catholic Capital Grant for $1.5 million to fund the project which will provide students with access to four new purpose designed science laboratories and four ergonomically designed technology laboratories to enhance the delivery of subjects such as Systems Design (Wood and Metal), Electronics, graphic design and Junior woodwork and metalwork.
Through the generosity of past students and past and present families the College will also embark upon the construction of a Main Oval Pavilion in October 2006. The Pavilion will become a vibrant hub for learning within the College’s innovative Middle School programme. It will provide the College with a flexible open learning space that will be invaluable within the College’s expanding range of curricular and co-curricular programmes.
The Pavilion will also have a variety of social and sporting uses. As you will appreciate from those cold winters in Ballarat the pavilion will be a fantastic addition to the landscape of the College providing much needed shelter from the elements as well as a wonderful gathering place for all SPC community gatherings – in particular year level reunions, Head of the Lake gatherings, careers nights, sporting matches, musical performances and art displays.
Another exciting project being undertaken by the College is the restoration of the College Chapel to its former glory. Considerable works have been done over the past three years to restore the Chapel as the spiritual centre of St Patrick’s College. Additional funds are required to restore the marble altar to its original state and install a more functional heating system for those cold Ballarat mornings!
The College has taken on a considerable financial burden to provide current and future generations of St Patrick’s College students with first class educational facilities that will maximise teaching and learning outcomes for all boys. Whilst the College lives within its means, later stages of the Building Master Plan can be expedited through members of the St Patrick’s College family donating to the College Foundations Building Fund.
All donations to the Foundation Building Fund are fully tax deductible. Donations can be made in a lump sum format (of cash or other goods of value such as shares or property) or through establishing an automatic debit to the College Foundation.
