Interview with 2017 Boarding Captain Harry Hobbs
What made you want to join St Patrick’s?
The reason I decided to join St Patrick’s was to help me to pursue my goals academically, as well as on the sports field. I also wanted to join because of how many opportunities there are available to me at a boarding school like St. Pats, which were not available to me at the school where I’m from.
What aspects of boarding life do you most enjoy?
The thing I enjoy most about boarding life is being around my friends 24/7. I also love the many facilities available to me in boarding school, which makes boarding much better than day school. As well as this, I love being based in Ballarat. It is also a lot easier for me to take part in a number of different sports, including football, cricket and basketball.
What are your duties as Boarding Captain?
As the St Patrick’s boarding captain, I have the role of overseeing the boy’s everyday activities, and making sure that they are getting the most out of boarding life for themselves, and everyone around them. I help them during day to day life, including lunch, tea and anything else they might be doing. I also help Miss Westwood when she needs me to, and have a big role in the community involvement aspects of our boarding. It is also my job at times to help keep things in the boarding house organised.
What kind of legacy would you like to leave as Boarding Captain at St Patrick’s?
I would not only like to leave behind a legacy involving me, but also one that involves the entire year 12 cohort. I would really like the boys of St Pat’s to remember the class of 2017. I would also like people to think of me as someone who helped to bring the community even closer together.
