Rugby has enjoyed great popularity at the College over the last few years which showed in 2012 with the introduction of a second junior rugby team.

St Patrick’s College is represented in the Victorian Schools Rugby Union competition across the senior, intermediate and junior level. In 2018, St Patrick's College will field several teams - Seniors, Under 16s, Under 15s, Under 14s and Under 13s.

Currently, the SPC Senior XV squad competes in the  competition which includes teams such as St Kevin's College, Melbourne Grammar, Haileybury College, Marcellin College and Ivanhoe College.

All of the St Patrick’s College rugby teams train on a Tuesday and Thursday after school, with games being contested on a Saturday morning.

The Rugby season commences during term 2 but continues over term 3.

The experience that the students receive within the Rugby program has led to several boys being selected to represent their state and even more to compete in the Western Metro Zone for the Rebels Regional Rugby.

The College also enjoys a close relationship with the Melbourne Rebels and has recently signed a two-year deal to provide a pre-season base for the Super Rugby team.
