News around the Boarding Precinct

  • What a wonderful start to the 2019 College year, here in Boarding at St Patrick’s College. We have been blessed to welcome many new families to, what is now, a full Boarding Precinct.

  • 35 of our Boarders are new to St Patrick’s College Boarding. This has been exciting for students and staff alike as we continue to develop a diverse, inclusive Boarding experience. Our Boarders have arrived from so many far-reaching places, ranging from Warrenheip and Warrnambool, Beaufort and Bowen, Horsham and Halls Gap, Ali Curung and Alice Springs and even Narre Warren and Nanjing in China. Each Boarder brings so much to our Community in the form of their personalities, humour and intelligence. It is an amazing environment within the Precinct.

  • It was with great pleasure that along with our new Boarders, we welcomed a new staff member to the Boarding team, Mr Daniel Lombard, who joins us as our second Senior Gap Tutor, arriving from Cape Town, South Africa. Daniel is a keen sportsman and musician, and has already developed positive relationships with our Boarders, especially our Yr11 Prefects who he will mentor throughout this year. We are looking forward to all of the exciting initiatives that Daniel will bring to the team.

  • We are delighted to announce that Jack Tillig has been appointed Captain of Boarding, with Josh Wilson-Stanton not returning to St Patrick’s College this year. Jack will be ably supported by our two Vice-Captains, Isaac Wareham and Cooper Atchison. We can also announce that the following Yr11 Boarders have been appointed Yr11 Prefects: Ben Howard, James Piscioneri, Alex Kinsman, Archie Pollard, Bas Prestwood, Alex Byham, Patrick Rea, Hudson Hair, Fraser Marris, Tom Gorman and Ethan Councillor. This is a great opportunity for these young men to develop their leadership skills whilst giving back to our Boarding Community.

  • Congratulations to the following boys who are nominated for a Chris Nolan award, to be presented at an up and coming Academic Assembly. Chris Nolan awards are presented to the students who finish in the top 15 per cent of their class for particular subjects.

  • Our first full weekend in Boarding was a busy one with all Boarders having the wonderful opportunity to attend the Super Rugby trial game between the Melbourne Rebels and Queensland Reds. A number of our Boarders also used this time to conduct some vital fundraising for a cause very close to us, MND Victoria. Through -tin rattling- and big smiles, the Boarders raised a whopping $300 on the night.

  • Following on from a great night at the Rugby, we organised a trip to one of the local shopping centres on Saturday that ensured the Boarders became familiar with their surrounds and tested their spending skills.

  • The heat on Sunday resulted in an impromptu trip to the Ballarat Aquatic Centre where the Boarders were able to relax and enjoy each other’s company while cooling off in the pools. Lots of competitive swimming, diving and even a -back flopping- competition!! All Boarders seemed to have an enjoyable time.

  • Many of our Boarding students are in the midst of pre-season training sessions, vying for spots in the Greater Western Rebels squads, the SPC 1stXV Rugby team and various local football and cricket teams. We wish them all the best as they strive to pursue their sporting potential.
