– Boarding Bulletin Board Term 4

News around the Boarding Precinct

  • Congratulations to current Year 11 Flexi Boarder, Connor Shugg, who was recently named as -‘Captain of Boats’ for the 2018/19 SPC Rowing season. Connor was presented with his badge at a recent College Assembly and we are all very proud of the dedication and commitment that Connor continues to show to the rowing program. Connor is a great role model to our Boarders.

  • Well done to the ten Boarders from years 7 to 11, who represented the College at the 100th Anniversary celebration of the end of World War I at the Arch of Victory this past Sunday. Led by our 2019 Captain of Boarding, Josh Wilson-Stanton, our Boarders assisted in laying a wreath at the base of the Arch to acknowledge and remember all who sacrificed so much for each of us. It is so important that as a Boarding Community we acknowledge those who selflessly give and hope that by our actions we show appreciation and understanding of this, allowing it to guide how we live our lives today.

  • When this fortnight’s Crest is published there will be just one day of examinations left. We congratulate our Year 12 cohort who have completed their exams to the best of their abilities, which is all we can ask of any of them. A positive balance has been found between study, recreation and relaxation that we are confident will be rewarded in the coming weeks. We can now look forward to celebrating all of their many achievements from their time with us at the Valedictory dinner.

  • The focus has now turned to our Year 11 cohort who are in the middle of their exam period. Organisation, preparation and staying motivated are the keys to our Yr11s achieving the best possible results that they can throughout this period. All of our Boarders have started well and should look to build on this. Upon the conclusion of their exams our Yr11s will then have a -‘taste’ of Yr12 during the Headstart week, an important time as their Yr12 year starts in earnest.

  • Well done to the growing number of Boarders who have just completed a six week pre-season program ahead of the 2019 SPC Rugby season. This was a varied program, with the boys completing multiple fitness tests, spin classes, weights training, swim sessions and even a training session with the police. We look forward to celebrating the success of the Rugby Program as the season gathers momentum in the new year.

  • Congratulations to our current Boarders who have hit the lake for the 2018/19 SPC Rowing Season. This is a large commitment for our Boarders with early morning trainings, camps and afternoon sessions all leading towards the annual Head of the Lake late in Term 1. Good luck to all that are vying for spots in crews and to those who may not make their goal we encourage them to use the adversity to build resilience and be inspired to train harder in the future.

  • We would also like to acknowledge and congratulate those Boarders who have received an invite to commence pre-season with the Greater Western Rebels Football Program. This is a wonderful achievement in itself and with training kicking off this week, we wish all participating well as they progress through the selection process. It is the dream of so many of our Boarders and we will support them all closely through their own individual journey.

  • Looking forward to 2019, we are busy planning our new Boarders’ Orientation Weekend. This year, for the first time, we have extended this occasion to over a weekend and we are so excited to be welcoming almost 30 new Boarders to our community. As another first we are also able to welcome at this time both our interstate and international new Boarders, which we have not been able to do in the past. For us all to come together for this weekend, prior to their official commencement in 2019, will be extremely important for their positive transition.
