KRC Update – June 20, 2019

June 19, 2019

It is with both excitement and sadness that we farewell Mrs Ann-Maree Hannon from our library team.- Ann-Maree has been the Assistant Director of Library and Information Services since January this year and has shared much of her expertise with us, this we will sadly miss.- Unfortunately commuting daily has not worked well for Ann-Maree and her family and she has been very fortunate to have procured work much closer to home, in Geelong.- We wish her well in her endeavours!

During the first semester the KRC has been busy with the hustle and bustle of daily life here at St Patrick’s.- Many students and staff have made use of our facilities as they endeavour to enhance their teaching and learning.- We have had many classes utilizing the resources, both online and in hard copy as they research specific topics associated with learning and assessment tasks.- The WIRED program has seen approximately 750 year 7, 8 & 9 boys visit the library every fortnight to borrow or renew books.- (It should be noted by parent’s that these students should be actively supporting the development of their reading by reading at home and students should log this reading in their reading log.) Our patient and obliging staff have facilitated numerous print jobs for students, the stapling of study notes into maths books for exam preparation, provision of audio books to support students as they study texts for English, the regular changing of passwords, support of numerous class tasks via physical and virtual curated content, creation of displays to support selection of reading materials and the daily provision of a warm and welcoming space during lunch and recess breaks -“ just to name a few.- We have also been able to assist students as they endeavour to -catch up- on unfinished or completed tasks and assessments.-

We look forward to welcoming our new Assistant Director of Library and Information Services (yet to be announced) and excitedly anticipate the way they will value add to our KRC Team.- Semester 2 means consolidating the beginnings made during Semester 1 and we will continue to develop and expand our resources as we strive to assist staff and students.- Mid-August we will be celebrating Book Week in the library for a two-week period and expect to see many boys take up the opportunity and challenge of several theme related activities and games.- – Something for boys to work on over the holidays if they are a budding artist or graphic designer is to create a logo to match the Book Week theme -Reading is My Secret Power-.- The successful design will then be used on our St Patrick’s College Book Week paraphernalia -“ certificates, stationery, entry forms, web pages related to Book Week and displays.- – – Entries can be uploaded via the following link:
