Official opening of the Food Technology Centre

February 14, 2017

You are warmly invited to the official opening and blessing of our brand new $1.1 Food Technology Centre on Wednesday, March 22 from 7pm.

We welcome our Old Collegians to come along and tour the new centre where our Year 7 to 12 boys are cooking up a storm in state-of-the-art facilities. The two massive new kitchen classrooms cater for the growing interest in the subject among boys of all ages and demonstrates St Patrick’s College’s aim to provide exciting new career paths for our students.

Subjects to be offered in the new Food Technology Centre classrooms in 2017 will include: Technology Food Years 7-9; Food Studies Year 10; and Food Studies VCE Units 1-4 for Years 11-12 students.

It is the first time Year 7 students will be able to study Food Technology.

In other exciting developments, the College also aims to be able to offer a VET Hospitality course from 2018 as well as other food-based certificate courses such as Food Handling and Barista.

It is great news for our boys who are interested in making a career in the food and hospitality industry.

The new facility has been built outside the Boarders’ Dining Room, blocking off the road which once ran through the eastern side of the College.

The old Food Technology classroom, known as the Whelan Food Technology Centre in honour of Old Collegian Con Whelan (SPC 1921-25), has been stripped and converted into a new home for the VCAL curriculum, which has also started this year.

A light supper will be held at the official opening and blessing. If you would like to attend, please click n this link: www.trybooking.com/OTWL
