2018 Subject Selection

Current Year 8 students attended the student information session for 2018 Year 9 this week. While at this session, students received print copies of the 2018 Year 9 Information Booklet and the 2018 Year 9 Subject Selection Guide. – Any Year 8 boy absent from this information session can collect a copy of these documents from the ERC.- Electronic copies of the documents distributed during this session, including the PowerPoint presentation can be accessed via the St Patrick’s College webpage.

The Information Booklet summarises the key aspects of the 2018 Year 9 program and includes an overview of the core and elective offerings for 2018, while the Selection Guide includes the return intention page and the step-by-step process for subject selection.

Families who require further assistance with Year 9 subject selection can contact:

  • their son’s Year 8 Pastoral Care Tutor

  • the relevant subject teacher or Head of Faculty

  • Mr Stuart Harridge or Mr Shane Hayes, Year 9 Co-ordinators

  • Mr Michael Busscher (Director of Middle School) or Mr John Richard (Director of Junior School) or,

  • Mr Stephen Hill (Deputy Headmaster -“ Teaching and Learning).

    Online submission of proposed 2018 Year 9 studies

    Students are required to submit their 2018 Year 9 course of study and program details using Web Preferences (the online subject submission portal). Students have been emailed a link to Web Preferences, along with detailed instructions.

    Please note: A parent and student signed copy of the 2018 Web Preferences Preference Receipt is to be submitted with the Subject Selection Guide.

    The Web Preferences and 2018 Year 9 Subject Selection Guide are due not later than Friday, September 8.

    In the coming weeks, parents of Year 8 boys will be mailed further details regarding their son’s study of English and Mathematics in 2018. This letter will list the English and Mathematics study that has been nominated for their son for 2018. For English, this will be one of two studies – Foundation English and English. For Mathematics, this will be one of three studies -“ Modified Mathematics, Pre-General Mathematics or Pre-Methods Mathematics. Each nominated study will reflect the boy’s current level of literacy and numeracy based on the College’s analysis of internal and external Year 7 and Year 8 diagnostic testing data.

    National Assessment Program -“ Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) report

    Parents of Year 7 and Year 9 boys have been mailed their son’s 2017 National Assessment Program -“ Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) report. The NAPLAN is designed to show parents how well their son is progressing in relation to what is expected in the key areas of reading, writing, language convention and mathematics for his year level, and how he is progressing in relation to expected statewide and national levels of achievement for these areas.

    Parents of Year 7 and Year 9 boys are asked to contact their son’s English and/or Mathematics teacher, or myself, regarding any questions or concerns they might have in relation to the information contained in the NAPLAN report.
