May 9, 2017

The College reconnects with James Dunn (SPC 2003-08) who remembers the Year 9 camps as some of his best memories at St Patrick’s and has since joined the Royal Australian Navy and is now subcontracting for the NBN.

James Dunn.

Where has life taken you since leaving SPC?

I worked at the Ballarat Wildlife Park as an animal keeper, then I joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Communications Information Systems Sailor. I am now an active reservist currently Subcontracting for NBN as a Hybrid Fibre Coaxial Network Engineer.

What are your favourite memories of your time at St Patrick’s College?

The best times were the Year 9 camps. Having the opportunity to travel and experience different parts of Victoria was amazing.

Which teacher from your time at SPC had the greatest impact on you? Why?

All of the teachers left their footprint on me at one stage or the other.

What was your favourite college event?

The Year 9 snow camp.

How has your education at SPC shaped your professional life?

Going to SPC made me feel a part of something. A group of your best mates that you learnt with and kicked the footy with and grew up with. It was an amazing environment that promoted teamwork and good ethics.

How has your time at SPC shaped your personal values and your family life?

It gave me values of leadership and teamwork which I use in the Navy, especially during high pressure situations.

If you could pass on one message to the students of today, what would it be?

Enjoy your school, get involved in every activity, study and try your hardest – you don’t realise what you have until it’s gone.
