Old Collegians
The OCA, originally the Old Boys’ Association was first formed in 1899, just six years after the opening of the College.
The Association was highly successful in the early years of the College’s history due in no small part to the work on Br Foran who took an active interest in all past students and encouraged them to remain in contact with the College. Since those early days the challenge of keeping students in touch with the College and assisting the College in providing boys with first class educational opportunities has been taken up by a number of prominent old boys.
Today the OCA Association is as strong as ever, thanks to a dedicated committee.
President: John Richards
Executive Officer: Mark Waddington
Committee members: Rick Keen, Richard Blanchfield, Peter Blanchfield and Michael Kearney.
In the past three years the OCA have committed to supporting the Development Office in raising $500,000 to construct a Main Oval Pavilion, published a quarterly magazine for old boys, conducted regional and reunion dinners and financially, provided funding for scholarships and assisted old boys representing Australia in a variety of pursuits.
The articles of the OCA highlight the range of activities undertaken by the Association to support past students and to assist the College in providing all current and future students with access to exceptional teaching and learning experiences and facilities:
- Organisation and development of networking opportunities for old boys to encourage social interaction between peer groups and the wider St Patrick’s College community.
- Fundraising activities that assist with the future development of the College;
- Allocation of funds for specific projects within the College – support for Band equipment or rowing equipment;
- Maintenance of a strong Old Collegians’ culture that recognises the importance of St Pat’s in shaping students lives and encourages past students to give something back to assist with the development of the next generation of Old Collegians;
- Development of networks that may assist students leaving the College access employment or vocational advice;
- Active involvement in vocational programs such as work experience and Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs; and
- Provision of role models and mentors for current students to access and aspire to imitate.
