TRADITION
St Patrick’s College was founded in 1893 on the teachings of Blessed Edmund Rice who believed that all boys who desire it should have the opportunity to receive a first class education. Edmund’s work has been carried on over the generations by committed and gifted educators who have shaped the lives of young men and in the process produced leaders in all walks of life.
PRIDE
One of the College’s most celebrated educators, Brother W.T. O’Malley eloquently summed up the feelings that boys have for this school when he observed that boys take great pride in wearing ‘the famous colours of the famous school’. This spirit lives on today and is passed between generations of students at St Patrick’s College.
Tradition is not a millstone that holds boys back. Rather it is an ever-present challenge that encourages boys to make their own unique contribution to the evolving history of St Patrick’s College, a proud tradition that exhorts boys to achieve personal excellence in a comprehensive range of curricular and co-curricular programmes.
St Patrick’s College is proudly a school for boys. Whilst it is important that all students find a school that best suits their individual needs, the single sex environment encourages boys to display leadership, focus on their studies and contribute fully to the life of the College – ‘At SPC, if the boys don’t do it, it doesn’t happen’.
The adolescent years can be difficult and challenging for boys and their families. Staff at St Patrick’s College are specialists in the education of boys and recognise that boys have different learning needs and styles and have developed programmes and initiatives in line with world’s best practice for boys’ education that will maximise learning outcomes for boys.
These learnings take place in a caring and supportive environment where boys develop spiritually, academically, physically and socially, whilst being engaged and having fun – and lots of it! The social development of boys is facilitated by a range of co-curricular programmes with girls from Loreto College.
The College is a member of the International Coalition of Boys’ Schools and provides a range of subjects and co-curricular experiences specifically designed for boys. The camaraderie of a supportive and nurturing all boys school is something that will enable
students to develop deep friendships that they can take with them and enjoy for life.
EXCELLENCE
St Patrick’s College offers boys a broad range of subject choices that will equip them to confront the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The College has a strongly developed teaching and learning culture that challenges students to achieve their personal best, whether it be in VCE examinations, the construction of an ornate table in Technology or through mastering a musical instrument.
The College seeks to provide each boy with an holistic education, grounded in Gospel values, that will sow the seeds for life-long learning and prepare each student for the exciting challenges that await them beyond the gates of the College.
We are committed to educating each boy in partnership with his family while providing curriculum experiences that will encourage boys to develop real life skills and, in the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice, to be mindful of the needs of others in our community.
The College acknowledges the special needs of boys and will provide opportunities for each student to become an independent and active learner through rich and innovative curriculum, a curriculum that awakens and stimulates the intelligence.
St Patrick’s College will work with boys and their families to maintain and enhance enthusiasm for learning through the use of engaging curriculum delivered by highly skilled, caring and supportive teachers with learning structures that embrace new technologies and teaching methodologies to maximise individual development.
Each subject stimulates boys to pursue a world of diverse learning opportunities, both within the College grounds and at locations locally, regionally and overseas. In recent years our students have represented the College by invitation in the Centenary of Public Education in Victoria and the International Youth Science Fair in London, had study tours of Japan and France, travelled on exchange across the world, and even walked the renowned Kokoda Trail.
The College has three distinct schools: Junior, Middle and Senior, enhancing student learning and encouraging continual pursuit of excellence. The Senior School structure (Years 10-12) permits students to study at the level that best reflects their current stage of learning, allowing for vertical subject selection in a wide range of areas including Vocational Education and Training electives. Middle School provides students with innovative curriculum experiences compatible with the challenges of adolescence and fostering life-long learning skills.
The Junior School programme is delivered within a caring and supportive environment that ensures all boys make a happy and productive transition to secondary education.
St Patrick’s College engages students in the learning journey to enable each boy to realise his academic and personal potential.
