Introducing VCAL at St Patrick’s College
St Patrick’s College is proudly a school for boys. We provide boys with an education that is engaging, connected and challenging, where young men can take risks, display leadership, follow their dreams and develop friendships that will last a life time.
Our purpose today is to educate for strong, moral, disciplined individuals who strive to be the best of which they are capable. We develop boys’ intellectual, social and creative talents in order that they live as effective, responsible citizens.
By using boy-specific teaching methods and an enriching curriculum, each student is challenged to achieve his best. Dedicated teaching staff provide specialist classes for those with learning difficulties, as well as highly structured enrichment programs, planning for every boy to reach his potential.
Counselling in subject choice and career direction is given high priority. Our students enjoy access to an extensive range of subjects, including VCE, VETiS and VCAL courses, enabling students to enter a wide range of tertiary courses, apprenticeships and traineeships in their chosen career pathways.
VCAL is designed for students whose prefer learning through doing, or a “hands-on” approach. VCAL aims to give boys the necessary skills to equip them well for employment, training at TAFE level, apprenticeships or traineeships. VCAL gives students practical work related experience as well as literacy and numeracy skills and an opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work. Like the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), the VCAL is a recognized Secondary Qualification.
