Old Boys forging new Nauruan ties

Old Collegians Dominic Appi (SPC 1980-1985) and Ashley Carr (SPC 1989-1990) recently met in Nauru at the Nauru-Australia Security Uplift Program.

Dominic was part of a cohort of boarders from Nauru and is now a director with the Department of Nauru Media in the Republic of Nauru Government.

Ash works in the Office of the Pacific at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra and was in Nauru for consultations to co-design Nauru’s National Security Strategy as part of a $40 million security uplift package under the recently ratified Nauru-Australia Treaty.

Dominic runs Nauru Media News NTV, weekly digital publication Mwinen KO, and the Nauruan government’s social media platform.

With a number of Nauruan Old Collegians, it was great to see some engagement at an important bilateral engagement. And as avid followers of Australian Rules, Dominic reflected how much national pride was stoked in Nauru whenever a Nauruan boarder was selected to play First XV III footy at St Pat’s.
