Max Shorter (SPC 2021-23, PY2027) has always been one for dreaming big.
And this young warrior, who battles a progressive neuromuscular disease known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), recently achieved his dream of reaching the northernmost point of Australia with his family by his side.
In a massive effort, his dedicated family and travel crew, helped carry Max over rocks, pushed his chair through tough terrain and cheered him on every step of the way to help Max achieve one of his lifelong dreams.
“This wasn’t just about reaching a destination,” his mum Belinda said.
“It was about proving that with the right people, anything is possible … Max will never forget this day and neither will we.”

Max attended SPC in his junior years before moving to Queensland with his family to support his ongoing health journey. His brothers William and Hudson, also battle DMD.
With his family, including mum Belinda, dad Leigh, brothers William and Hudson and sister Sofia on board, along with extra team support, and his impressively decked-out Nissan ute, Max made the journey 4X4 style.

The trip took incredible effort, planning and teamwork from the whole family and team.
So when Max reached the top of the country to realise his dream, he made sure he wheeled out in his chair and got the photos to prove it!
Travelling can be tough, let alone for a family with three boys suffering DMD and the extra needs and extra equipment needed for day-to-day living, so for Max’s family to make this dream a reality for Max is nothing short of an inspiration.
