A well-worn mystery novel, awarded to a SPC student over 70 years ago, was returned to the College recently after it was discovered in a second-hand book sale.

The book, The Intelligence Corps Saves the Island, by M. Frow, was awarded to SPC student, Paul Kierce (SPC 1948-56, PY1957), after he was named Dux of Sixth Grade in 1951.

The book is a sequel to The Intelligence Corps and Anna, and follows the adventures of the two sets of Darcy twins, John and Joan and Bill and Betty, as they go to spend their holidays on a small island off the coast of South Wales and discover a submerged cave and mysterious sea chest.

The recipient of this prize, Paul Kierce, was a day student at SPC between 1948 and 1956 and later became an orthopaedic surgeon in Portland. He sadly passed away in 2018.

The book was discovered by Kristie and Addison, from Woodville in South Australia, at a second-hand book sale, and has been added to the College’s archival collection.
