We were delighted to welcome Old Collegian Neville Mikulandra (SPC 1974-76, PY1978) back to the College this week. Neville and his twin brother Neil (SPC 1974-76, PY1978) were full-time boarders from Kew, in the Melbourne suburbs.
Neville recalled enjoying his time immensely at SPC, especially mealtimes, where he recalls plenty of food always on offer, including steak at lunchtime.
He was briefly expelled and remembers writing to College Headmaster Br Nagle at the time, pleading to be able to return, to which his wish was granted.
A keen fisherman, still to this day, he remembers heading to Lake Wendouree on weekends for a spot of fly-fishing.
Neville and Neil were both talented hockey players, playing in the 1st XI Hockey team during their first year at SPC where they were described in the 1974 College Annual as having “tremendous potential – can be champions next year!”.
They succeeded, playing in the 1976 Champion Hockey 1st XI team, winning the BPS Hockey Cup in their Form 4 class year.
Their talents were detailed in the 1976 College Annual – “Neville and Neil Mikulandra gave tremendous service to the team, enthusiastically urging their team-mates on to victory – and always in the forefront themselves”.
