Beating the chill at the 2024 Winter Warmers Lunch

There was plenty of chatter and good times at our Old Boys’ Winter Warmers Lunch last Friday at the Golden City Hotel in Ballarat.Nearly 40 Old Boys beat the winter chill and enjoyed a delicious meal in the good company of SPC friends.

Hosted by the Old Collegians’ Association, the crowd heard from our very own four-time Olympian Steve Moneghetti (SPC 1975-80), who spoke about the fast-approaching 2024 Paris Olympics as well as his own personal experiences.

Steve’s insights were definitely a highlight of the day and we thank Steve for supporting our lunch.

College Principal Steven O’Connor gave an update of the many exciting events, news and happenings from the College over the first two terms of 2024.

We also welcomed Old Collegians Noel Sheehan (SPC 1964-70) and Michael Dowd (SPC 1964-69) who host the popular Paddies Emerald Lunches in Melbourne.

Noel and Michael spoke of their joy in hosting the Emerald Lunches, and their excitement at recently hosting their 50th lunch!

College Principal Steven O’Connor gave an update on the College news for the first six months of 2024.

For those who don’t know, the Emerald Lunches are held on the first Friday of every season at the Emerald Hotel in south Melbourne and are an open invitation to all Old Collegians.

It was great to welcome former Principal Dr Peter Casey AM to our lunch along with a number of Old Boys attending the lunch for the first time, and those travelling distances, including Warrnambool and Melbourne and surrounds.

Thank you also to Marcus Coppock (SPC 1967-71, PY1972) who, while attending the lunch, took the opportunity to donate his prized student trophy back to the College archives.

Thank you to OCA president Charlie Flynn (SPC 1971-72) for representing the OCA at the lunch and Michael Kearney (SPC 1962-67) for excelling, as always, in the role of master of ceremonies.

Thank you also to Dennis Foley (SPC 1967-72) and John Moroney (SPC 1962-67) for their help in planning and hosting the lunch.

Our next lunch will be held later in the year as a Christmas lunch and more details will follow closer to the date. We hope to see you there!
