Dr Brendan Harding (SPC 2001-06) returns for visit

Thanks to Old Collegian Dr Brendan Harding (SPC 2001-06) for popping into the College last week.

Brendan, who was College Dux in 2006, is now based at the Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, and has carved out an impressive career as a mathematics researcher and lecturer, presenting regularly all over the world.

Brendan, pictured second from left, with SPC teachers, Geoff Brodie, Colleen Pope and Danny Moore, who were special mentors during his own time as a student.

During his visit to SPC, Brendan chatted to some of our Year 10s, gave our Year 12 specialist maths class some great tips, and reunited with some of his own personal SPC teaching mentors, long-time staff members Danny Moore, Geoff Brodie and Colleen Pope.

Brendan was in Ballarat visiting family, and also attended a mathematics workshop at the University of Melbourne’s Creswick campus, which is now regularly used for mathematics workshops hosted by MATRIX, a mathematics research institute which is supported by a number of universities throughout the country. The workshop Brendan attended was focused around “Slow Viscous Flows with Interfaces” and his talk was on “Comparing regular and singular perturbation methods for estimating the inertial lift force”.
