St Patrick’s College came alive on Monday, 5 May, with the colour, energy and joy of our annual Edmund Rice Day celebrations.
The day, a tradition that honours the life and legacy of Blessed Edmund Rice—founder of the Christian Brothers—began in reverence with a beautiful Mass in the College gymnasium, led by Fr Eladio. With students, staff and guests gathered as one, the liturgy offered a powerful reminder of Edmund Rice’s mission to serve the marginalised and to live out faith through action.
Following the Mass, the College grounds transformed into a hub of celebration and fundraising. Students participated in a walkathon around Victoria Park and Lake Wendouree, raising money and awareness for those in need. Upon return, a hotdog lunch brought everyone together to refuel and reconnect.
A range of fun and spirited activities filled the afternoon, including netball, football, darts and golf putting challenges—each designed to raise funds in support of our chosen charities. Laughter, competition and generosity were in abundance, as students embraced the opportunity to make a difference while enjoying time with their peers.
Deputy Principal – Community John Richards said the day was a powerful expression of the College’s core values.
“Edmund Rice Day is always one of the highlights of our school year,” he said.
“It’s a day when our values come to life through faith, fun and service — and this year was no exception. The joy on the boys’ faces and their generous spirit was truly inspiring.”
The celebrations concluded with a highlight on the College calendar—St Pat’s Got Talent. This year’s talent quest was as entertaining as ever, showcasing the musical gifts of our students. And while all those who took to the stage shone with talent and courage, Year 9 student Ryan Cook took home the trophy for the second consecutive year with his heartfelt performance of Robbie Williams’ Angels.
Principal Steven O’Connor praised students and staff for their support of the day.
“It’s great to be able to be amongst the boys and share their joy and enthusiasm across the day. We were blessed with great weather and this made for a wonderful walk around Vic Park and the Lake.” he said.
Edmund Rice Day remains a powerful expression of who we are as a College community—one built on faith, tradition, excellence and joy. We give thanks for the opportunity to celebrate together and to walk in the footsteps of Blessed Edmund Rice, continuing his mission in our world today.
