Michael Antony Martin (SPC 1947-53, PY1955) passed away at the Kew Grove Care Community Centre in Melbourne on 5 August, 2025, aged 88 years.

His memorial is to held at the Green Acres Golf Club in Kew on Tuesday, 30 September at 11.30am.

Michael was a cherished and adored husband of Joan (dec) for 63 years, loved and treasured father of five children, adored grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Michael arrived at SPC at the age of nine in 1947.

In 1947, at the age of nine, Michael became a full-time boarder at St Patrick’s from his home in Box Hill, where he would spend the next seven years, completing his time there in 1953. His older brother, John Frederick Martin – who also sadly passed away this year on February 23, 2025, at the age of 92 – was also enrolled at the school during this time.

Michael was involved in music and was involved in the school football program.

Michael’s years at St Pat’s had a profound impact on him. He often spoke of his time there with great fondness, sharing stories that reflected his deep affection for the community. During his seven years at the school, Michael was actively involved in many areas and formed lifelong friendships that endured for over 70 years.

St Pat’s instilled in him the values of community, kindness, belonging, integrity, loyalty, and humour – qualities that Michael carried with him throughout his life. These values were evident in his devotion to his family, his long career in senior management at Woolworths, his 30-plus years as a member of Green Acres Golf Club, and, more recently, his involvement in Probus.

Michael was highly regarded and respected and will be greatly missed.

Thank you to Michael’s family for assisting with this tribute.
