Second XI Soccer (SPC Green) BAS Round 1 Match Report

After one unsuccessful and one successful training match in previous weeks, the Second XI’s first official match of the BAS season was hampered by a few players’ absence and a late bus departure before the starting whistle.

From the get go, our Ballarat Clarendon College (Red) opponents ‘brought it to us’ with fast, physical, driving attacks that quickly netted them three goals within the first ten minutes of play.

For a noticeable short while at least, replacement goalkeeper Riley Stevens and soon to be injured sweeper Lachie Ralston were able to instill some order into the back line, which motivated some offensive play from our midfield.

However, after a number of corners at our end BCC netted two more goals by half time.

It was clear that despite some great individual talent amongst our players, we were being out-done in passing, speed and physicality.

The second half saw some more fight from SPC, personified by the likes of Jack Reinhardt, Mitch Cocking, Marcus Parini and Mitch Butterworth.

Eventually, however, SPC were again overwhelmed by the sheer size and dominance of the opposition, who netted another five goals.

Although it was a far from ideal start to the season, the players were positive that things can improve.-

Final Score: BCC (Red) 10 – SPC (Green) 0
