2nd XI Soccer Report – June 17, 2015

SPC BLUE – – – 1- – – – – – defeated by – – – – – – SPC GREEN – – – 4

An enthusiastic and motivated SPC Blue (2nd XI) travelled to Morshead Park on Wednesday evening to square off against their rivals SPC Green (First XI). Weather conditions were favourable and with a full contingent of players the boys were confident that they could make an impact on the soccer programme at SPC.

The quality of SPC Green was evident from the get go and their possession and skill made it very difficult to maintain any real continuity. However, as the game went on SPC Blue became more confident with their skills and abilities and were able to put their opponents under pressure. Despite conceding a goal mid-way through the first half and sublime strike from Edwin North was the confidence boost that the boys required.

The inclusion of Alex Baker and Mitchell Smith (both Year 8 students) settled the team and provided us with the drive needed. The back line of Evan Green, Liam O’Shea, James Parini and Mitchell Steele were very solid and with the support of Paddy Collier in goals ensured that for the majority of the game they remained competitive.

Connor McKee, Kyle Schorback, Jacob Coxall and Oliver Richardson all had solid games in midfield as did Edwin North and Xavier Curran up front.-

Unfortunately, some lapses in concentration as well as a lack of structure was our overall downfall. To the boys credit they showed great perseverance and endeavour which was pleasing and will no doubt ensure that they remain competitive in the remaining games this season.

– What was evident on the day was the quality of soccer present at SPC. It is encouraging to see so many players enjoying the game and the depth and quality of player is something the College and broader community should acknowledge and celebrate. This was a great contest and full credit to all boys involved for the way in which they represented themselves and the College.
