We have been notified of the passing of Mortlake’s Frank Lawrance Quinlan (SPC 1953-57, PY1958) in August 2021.

Frank was a day student, from Mortlake, who completed his leaving studies and was a very active student during his time at SPC. He was a member of the 1957 First XVIII Football BPS Champions side and played school footy throughout his schooling.
Frank was named the “most consistent” player in the 7-7 Football team in 1955, which shared the end-of-season premiership with Ballarat College. He was also a member of the U15 champion side in 1955, coached by Br Howard, and the Six Stone Seven XVIII football team in 1954, captained by B Tellefson and coached by Br Howard. The 1954 College Annual stated the team was “made up of a talented lot of junior footballers who scored an impressive 50 goals 55 behinds to seven goals 12 behinds in the matches against Ballarat College and Ballarat Grammar”.

Frank was also a member of the Treacy House premiership team in the school’s Shed competition in 1954.
Frank was also a handy athlete, as well as a rower, and was a member of the rowing thirds in 1957 and 1956, and novice rowing pairs in 1955.

Frank also enjoyed success in the Alliance Francaise competitions, winning a first prize for his recitation in 1955.
