BAS 1st XVIII Grand Final Preview

Arguably the strongest arch rivalry in Ballarat school sport will come to a head again on Wednesday, July 22 when St Patrick’s College takes on Ballarat Clarendon College in the Ballarat Associated Schools 1st XVIII football grand final.

The match will be played from 3.30pm at the revamped Wendouree Recreational Reserve.

St Patrick’s College will be aiming to win its ninth consecutive title in the Ballarat schoolboys competition but is anticipating a fierce battle from the highly credentialled College team.

Although the SPC team, coached by Howard Clark, has been undefeated in the 2015 season, its two closest victories came over the rivals from across the road. On both occasions, the result could have gone either way.

Mr Clark has named a strong team to compete in the grand final, captained by exciting midfielder Jacob Hopper. Injuries have meant that several players will be missing from the SPC team including vice-captains Jacob Wheelahan and Leigh Spiteri and on-baller Bailey Veale.

All members of the College community are encouraged to get along to support the boys in the green, white and blue.

It will be the last game the SPC team plays before embarking upon its bid to defend its title in the 2015 Herald Sun Shield competition. St Patrick’s College will take on St Joseph’s College from Geelong in the semi-final next Wednesday (July 29).
