Boarding Bulletin Board

September 4, 2020

As we begin to navigate our way through the remaining few weeks of this term, our Boarders continue to try their hardest both with their online learning and keeping occupied by participating in different activities in and around the Boarding Precinct.

Exciting news in Boarding as we recently began the process of electing our 2021 Captain of Boarding. Our current year 11 Boarding students were invited to submit an application to Mr Silcock and a student vote was then performed. Following on from this, the applicants were interviewed and as a first, two of these interviews were conducted over Microsoft Teams. The announcement of the successful candidates will be shared in a future bulletin. Good luck to all those that applied.

It has been wonderful to see many Boarders step out of their comfort zones and try their hands at different events, whether this be a new sport, painting or even learning some new dance moves! We have tried to offer plenty of variety within our activity sessions and the Boarders appear to appreciate the effort that is being put in – special mention must go to our student leaders, Ben, Pat and Ethan who have actively developed and successfully ran many of the activities each night.

A highlight and wonderful recent surprise organised by the Old Collegians Association, was the generous and thoughtful purchase of dinner for all the Boarders. To remind the Boarders that they were being thought of and were not alone, the OCA organised several pizzas to be delivered to the Precinct for all to enjoy. This was appreciated by all and was a nice change from the regular routine. This Friday we are also conducting chats between members of the OCA and our current Boarders. This is a wonderful opportunity for our Boarders to hear stories and ask questions of previous students while gaining an insight into how things used to be. We are hoping that this becomes a regular occurrence and again, gives our Boarders another activity to look forward to while sharing their own stories and journeys.

Congratulations must be forwarded to current Year 12 student, Archie Pollard, who competed in the week one St Patrick’s College Music Challenge which asked students to perform theme songs from television shows. Archie produced an impressive performance of the Stranger Things theme song which netted him fourth place. Congratulations Archie.

A further congratulations and well done to all our year 12 Boarding Students who recently completed an intense couple of days of School Assessed Classwork. Through these difficult times, our Boarders have continued to maintain their high level of study and the opportunity to sit SACS gave them all insight to how they are travelling and where they may need to improve. Those Year 12’s that did not sit SACS, continued to work through their assessment tasks and assignments to ensure a successful VCE pass. We are very proud of all our Boarding students.
