Boarding Bulletin Board (T1)

News around the Boarding Precinct

  • How very proud were we to be able to watch four of our Boarders compete and win at the recent BAS Head of the Lake regatta. Congratulations to Max Daunt and Michael Cappello who were winners in the Open 4th Division. Regan Champley and Connor Shugg were victorious in the Head of the Lake 1st Division, rowing in tough conditions and doing us proud. All of these boys should be commended on their dedication and determination that they have shown to SPC Rowing. It was wonderful to have so many of the Boarders at the lake on Sunday to drive our boys over the finish line.

  • Following on from their success at Head of the Lake, we wish the four boys good luck as they compete in the upcoming Rowing State Championships on Saturday, March 3rd. We know that they will do themselves, their families and the College very proud.

  • On Sunday, February 18th, over 150 friends and family joined us in celebrating our -‘Welcome To Community’ Mass and Dinner. One of the many highlights of the event was the Smoking Ceremony, performed outside our new Boarding Precinct, which welcomed all new boarders and their families into the St Patrick’s College Boarding Community.

  • For those of you who live around St Patrick’s College, you might have heard the cheers echoing across Jo Walter Field in recent evenings. In true boarding fashion, our boarders have created their own hybrid game, which consists of elements of AFL and Soccer, resulting in boys -scoring- by kicking a football into the soccer nets. It is such a sight to behold, seeing so many of our boys participating and supporting each other in their own game.

  • On Wednesday, February 28th, six of our boarders participated in the Australian Boarding Schools’ Association (ABSA), inaugural Boarding Student Leadership Conference. Students and Boarding Staff from Boarding schools from around Victoria descended on St Patrick’s College and Ballarat Grammar as co-hosts of the Conference. Students heard from Leading Teams speaker, Jake Bridges, who spoke of the many different types of leadership and what it takes to be a leader. Our boys then lead tour groups around our new Boarding Precinct. Lunch was shared by all at Ballarat Grammar where the Conference continued and concluded with a tour of their recently renovated boarding facilities. This was a wonderful opportunity for the boys to meet other students from boarding schools, share ideas and share the bond of being a Boarder.

  • Our Year 7 boarders were extremely excited and thrilled to share in a movie night with Mr and Mrs Silcock recently. Plenty of laughs, lots of chatter and a few sneaky snacks ensured that everyone had a lovely evening.

  • It is fantastic to report that under the guidance of Captain of Boarding, James Richardson, a Boarders’ Student Council has commenced. This gives Boarders of all year levels, an opportunity to speak with our student leadership and pass on any suggestions or issues that may have arisen.

  • We congratulate and wish current Year 12 Boarder Max Daunt well, as he qualified for the upcoming BAS Swimming Championships.

  • Year 9 camps have commenced and we have many boarding students looking forward to a change of scenery as they head off for a three-day adventure to Queenscliff. Here they will participate in a range of activities, including windsurfing and abseiling.

  • Year 7 camps concluded last week. Boarding staff were able to visit our four Yr7s on their various camps and it was very special to see how their boarding experience/s were helping them support other Yr7 students without the same experience.

    Up-Coming Events

  • Boarders’ EXEAT Weekend -“ Friday, March 9th (5pm) until Monday, March 12th (5pm).

  • Wednesday, March 14th, is the annual SPC Athletics Carnival. All of our Boarders will be involved in activities all day, as they participate in a variety of athletic activities in their House groups. This is a wonderful day with plenty of atmosphere and competitiveness.

  • On Saturday, March 17th, there will be a College-wide celebration for St Patrick’s Day. In light of this being the College’s 125th year the College will run an -‘Open Day’ on this day, which will include a luncheon and exhibition games of both football and rugby.

  • The 2017/18 SPC Cricket Presentation Dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 27th.

  • End of Term 1 will be Thursday, March 29th, which will coincide with the Boarding specific Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews at 2.30pm in the College Dining Room.

Notes

  • We again remind all families to please ensure their sons clothing is named. Our Housekeeping Team have had difficulty in washing the clothes given the high volume that is unnamed. We are not able to guarantee its return if it is not named.

  • We encourage all families to utilise PAM (Parent Access Module) to keep up-to-date with their son’s progress and to respond to any correspondence that the College requires. In particular, could we ask that all families take the time to ensure that the -‘Medical’ section is completed thoroughly. This is essential ahead of our Boarders going on any class excursions or Year Level camps.
