-‘Boarding Bulletin Board (T3)’
News around the Boarding Precinct
Following a comprehensive process that has entailed a letter of application, informal questions, student and staff vote and an interview -“ we are delighted to announce the following leadership for 2020.
– 2020 Captain of Boarding -“ Benedict Howard
– 2020 Vice Captains of Boarding -“ Patrick Rea and Ethan Councillor
We have no doubt that these impressive young men will lead the Boarding Community with enthusiasm, reliability and distinction. Already there are some wonderful ideas coming from these future leaders, which brings great excitement to the Precinct.
Congratulations to our Year 12 Indigenous Boarders who will be recognised at a Graduation Dinner for all Indigenous students in Victorian Catholic Schools on Friday the 13th of September. This dinner will be held in Melbourne and is hosted by the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the following Boarders; Myles King, Elijah Kelly, Tyrese Thompson, Dennis Coolwell, Kayne Councillor and Mick Derrick.
The 2019 St Patrick’s College Rugby Presentation was held on Thursday night at the College Pavilion. So many of our Boarders participated throughout the Rugby season and it was a wonderful opportunity to see these Boarders recognised on the night. Award winners will be announced in the next Boarding Bulletin.
The 2019 SPC Football season will be celebrated at the annual John James Medal presentation night on Tuesday the 10th of September. We would like to acknowledge and congratulate all of the Boarders who participated in the Football program throughout the year. Award winners will be announced in the next Boarding Bulletin.
Congratulations to those many Boarders who are still competing in local Ballarat Football League finals. It is fantastic to see the commitment and dedication that the Boarders have shown to these clubs and we look forward to watching a number of our Boarders run out on Grand Final Day.
Our Monday night Guest Speaker program, coupled with our fledging -‘house’ system, has continued to gather momentum and success. This past week two of our Yr7s, Eric Yang and Dwayne Hayes, treated our Boarding Community to a wonderful performance on their respective instruments. The confidence that both showed and how well it was embraced by our broader Boarding Community was very special. We congratulate Senior GAP Tutor, Daniel Lombard, for his coordination of this this term and look forward to its return in Term (2) next year.
Our Director of Boarding, Mike Silcock, and our Acting Co-Headmaster, Ms Elizabeth Ryan, travelled to the Northern Territory last week. Mike commented on the privilege it continues to be to travel into the communities, the homes of so many of our remote Indigenous Boarders, whilst connecting with new families. Their travels took them to the Tiwi Islands, Darwin, Katherine, Adelaide River, Tennant Creek, Ali Curung, Alice Springs and Wallace Rockhole. We look forward to welcoming many of our families down when our Yr12s graduate and meeting the new families on our Orientation weekend in early December.
Mike sent out an email this past week outlining the opportunity for the forthcoming Boarding Parent, Student, Teacher interviews. Please contact Glenis Kydd (gkydd@stpats.vic.edu.au) if you would like to make an appointment/s with your sons’ teachers. Both Mike and our Housemaster team will be available on that afternoon if you wish to discuss any pastoral issues with us.
