Book your team for the OCA MENtal Golf Day

October 17, 2016

The SPC-OCA Golf Day will hit the greens again in 2017, this time with the special aim of raising awareness and funds for mental health.

The OCA MENtal Golf Day will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Midlands Golf Club.

The 4-person Ambrose golf day aims to build on the College’s inaugural and successful MENtal Brekky, held in August, and will raise funds and awareness of mental health through the College’s Chris Yeung Fund.-

Chris Yeung was a Ballarat boy who attended St Patrick’s College and completed his Year 12 studies in 1981. For much of his adult life, Chris battled mental illness and died in 2015, aged 51. In spite of his illness, Chris was able to be a beloved father and partner, an accountant, a small business operator and a home owner.

After his passing, a group of Chris’ friends and former school mates from St Patrick’s decided that, having mourned the loss of their friend, they needed to do something practical.

From this, the Chris Yeung Fund was born and aims to break down the barriers to men being able to discuss their mental health freely and openly. It aims to assist in destigmatizing mental illness and consequently help men to seek the support and understanding they need from family, friends and work colleagues.

As maintaining a job can be difficult for anyone suffering from a mental illness, the Chris Yeung Fund also aims to channel funds to support the education costs of SPC students who have a member of their immediate family suffering from a mental illness.

The inaugural MENtal Brekky was held in August this year and raised more than $30,000 for the fund. It is hoped next March’s golf day will provide another boost to assist many in our current school community.

The OCA MENtal Golf Day in 2017 will switch to a Friday (rather than a Sunday as it has been held in the past).

Enjoy an egg and bacon roll at the pre-golf brekky and registrations at 8.30am followed by a shotgun start at 9.30am, gourmet BBQ lunch and presentations from 2pm.

All beverages are included throughout the day and events include Nearest the pin (all par 3s), Longest drive and Punter’s hole. Numbers are limited to 30 teams of four players. Team cost is $500 (all inclusive). Players without a recognised GA Handicap are welcome. The maximum social handicap for unhandicapped players is 27 for men and 36 for women. Golflink Numbers are required for players with a GA.
