Cardinal Pell visits

March 30, 2015

St Patrick’s College was delighted on the final day of Term 1 to host a visit by one of its most esteemed Old Collegians Cardinal George Pell (SPC 1949-59).

Cardinal Pell, currently Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy in the Vatican, returned to the College during a short vacation to Australia.

He was particularly interested in meeting new Headmaster John Crowley for the first time and taking a tour of the College to meet with staff and students and inspect new facilities.

Cardinal Pell had last visited the College for the Blessing of the OCA Pavilion in 2008 and was interested in inspecting the new Devine Wing, which houses Year 9 classrooms, and to mingle with Junior School students in the wing named in his honour.

Headmaster John Crowley said he was thrilled to be able to walk through the College grounds with such a proud Old Collegian who harboured fantastic memories of his time as a student in the 1950s.

-Cardinal Pell has long been a strong and passionate advocate of St Patrick’s College and remains close friends with many of his former classmates from his time as a student here,- Mr Crowley said.

-It was a great thrill to be able to escort His Eminence around the College grounds and witness the way he interacted with staff and students alike.-
