Communications at St Patrick’s College

Welcome to the first edition of The Crest for 2016.

This fortnightly newsletter is emailed to all families and students every second Friday and aims to provide a thorough overview of news and events from around our large community.

All items published in the Crest are also collated in two easy-to-find pages on the College website. All general news items can be located at any time at https://www.stpats.vic.edu.au/en/students-parents-staff/news/ while all sport-related news items can be found at https://www.stpats.vic.edu.au/en/st-patricks-college/publications/crest-news/sports-news/

The Crest is just one of several methods of communication freely available to all members of the St Patrick’s College community.

We strongly encourage all members of our community to consider connecting with the College through our social media networks.

The official St Patrick’s College and Old Collegians Association Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/spcoca and presently has more than 4000 people engaged on the page. It is updated regularly with great news snippets and photos from around the College and is proving to be a very popular medium for many in our community.

We also manage a Friends of Performing Arts Facebook page which can be found at www.facebook.com/friendsofperformingarts/ and provides updates throughout the year on our music, public speaking and drama programs.

Many sports at St Patrick’s College are using Facebook groups as a means of communication. Presently there are active Facebook groups for cricket, rugby, football, basketball and swimming. There is also an active Facebook group for our boarding community. We encourage you to join as many of these groups as you like.

Similarly, the College has an active presence on Instagram where more than 1100 people are following us and we encourage you to join them by searching for @spcballarat.

On Twitter, the College presently has more than 1120 followers at the @spcballarat account and hundreds more at the @spcsport account. We encourage you to join.

Along with the Crest, the College also produces a tri-annual magazine to ensure our community is fully informed about all that is happening around the College. This magazine, entitled the Shamrock, will be produced this year in April, September and December and will be home delivered to all current families. We hope you enjoy reading it. Archived copies of the Shamrock are available on the College website.

In addition, the College will provide regular contact with parents through various other means including emails and letters. Occasionally the College may also communicate with parents via text message.

We are in the process of ensuring the vast majority of our communications are via digital means and are looking to minimise physical mail-outs as much as possible. We ask for your understanding and co-operation as we continue this transition.

I hope you have a wonderful year in 2016.
