Day 9 – Maghera

Day 9 -“ Maghera

We awoke to a frosty but sunny morning and the day only got better. We were told that it snowed this time last week but the day was still and mild. After a huge breakfast the boys prepared their kit for the match against St Patrick’s College, Maghera.

The first game kicked off at 10.30 with our boys playing three 20 minute thirds. The first two being Gaelic and the last with the oval ball. The game was played in good spirits with the Irish boys putting on a display early before our boys fought back. The introduction of Aussie Rules in the latter part of the game allowed our boys show off their skill and athleticism whilst giving the Irish boys a chance to experience the foreign ball managing to kick a few goals themselves. –

Following lunch back at our accommodation we set off for the Seamus Healy Cultural Centre. This was a multi-faceted display which gave the boys the opportunity to experience the life and literature of a Noble prize-winning poet.

The day finished with an exciting game of Hurling where the home team, our host, we victorious. – Best on ground goes to Chris Collins for organising the games, the accommodation and our dinner which was served in the club rooms prior to the match.
