From the Archives – with Halina Sztynda

February 24, 2020

As we begin 2020, St Patrick’s College proudly inducted our 2019 Dux, Matthew Duffy, at the 2020 College Academic Assembly.

Recent cataloguing in the College Archives uncovered a 1923 ‘Dux Pin’ awarded to Jack Reidy, 1st Commercial Class Dux.

Donated by John McMillan a former student and Mrs Nelson both related to Jack. The pin was kept as a memento by Jack’s sister as Jack tragically died as a young man in accident whilst working away.

An error in the engraving, should read ‘Reidy’.

In addition to the pin, a photograph was donated by the Reidy family. Pictured are the winners of the grand final Midget Competition October 1924. Jack Reidy is pictured in the photograph.

Pictured: J. Reidy Capt. (3rd front left, front row), L. Shanahan Vice Caption, F. Shea, D. Fraser, W. Raftis, J. Costello, S. Williams, S Redden (absent), J. Tressider Scorer (results, Browns 7.5 vs Blacks 9.5), D. Brown, J.P. Kelly, V. Sheahan, C, McConville, H. Hay, L. Blundell and E. Bourke emergencies.

If our Old Collegians have any items of interest, which they would like to donate or captured into the St Patrick’s College archival collection, please email me with the details. Alternatively, the College would appreciate a picture of the treasured item and history rather than parting with the memento.
