Gerald Power (SPC 1962, PY1963)

March 9, 2021

Gerry Power was in the sixth crew in rowing in 1962.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Gerald Power (SPC 1962, PY1963), who passed away on February 12, 2021, aged 76 years.

Gerry was a boarder from Red Cliffs and only attended SPC for one year. He lived in Kenny House but made many friends and was a rower and played in the SPC First XVIII Football team. He was described in the 1962 College Annual as a “ruckman who was hampered by injury for long periods. A talented player who will benefit by his experience”.

After leaving St Pat’s, his good friend Damian Goss recalled Gerry went to America to become a chiropractor. Gerry returned home and set up a successful chiropractic practice in Mildura for many years until retiring, with his successful business now operated by his son Benjamin. Gerry and his wife Catherine have six children, Virginia, Benjamin (SPC 1988-90, PY1991), Marcus (SPC 1992, PY1994), Samuel, Sarah and Anna.

Gerry enjoyed catching up on regular occasions with his SPC mates. He was also brother-in-law to Phil McCleary (SPC 1958-62) (deceased) and cousin to Gerry Baldock (SPC 1961-62). Gerry’s father Joseph also attended SPC between 1920-23.
