Responsible ICT Usage

At the start of the year all students and parents signed the College 1:1 device agreement. This agreement clearly outlines the guidelines and conditions that students need to follow while using their device at school. This agreement clearly states that:

  • apps such as Snapchat, Kik, Instagram and Tumblr are not to be installed or used on any device while at school

  • that the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs -“ used to get around the firewall and filtering of a Wifi network) are not to be installed

  • that students will not hide files or applications inside folders. -Files, their location and use of my device will be completely transparent at all times.- Use of -‘vault’ apps such as Secret Safe Calculator or the like are banned

  • students will always use ICT equipment in an appropriate, ethical, legal and responsible manner

Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that a number of students had banned apps and VPN’s installed on their iPads. Further to this, a number of students had inappropriate content ie photos / memes that should not be on their devices. Over the last week, the College has spent considerable time checking the devices of students and removing any apps, VPNs or content that did not comply with guidelines as set out in the ICT Responsible Usage document. All of these students were officially warned and told if that it was to happen again that the consequences would be serious. The College will continue to monitor and check devices of any students we have reason to believe contain inappropriate content. This has been clearly communicated to the student community and we are hoping that this strong message has been taken on board.

I have provided a manual on how you can check your son’s iPad on the iPads @ St Pats parent support page here: http://ipads.stpats.vic.edu.au/manuals-and-forms.html

iPad Neoprene Sleeves distributed to Year 7 Students Update

With regards the replacement neoprene sleeves for those students who received the incorrect ones at the start of the year, CompNow has confirmed that the sleeves have landed in Australia. They have told us they should be at the College by next week.
