Intermediate Soccer Report – May 20, 2015

May 20, 2015

It is convenient to make the analogy that the Year 9s are currently studying the First World War, and what the Intermediate Soccer squad experienced for the better part of Wednesday’s match away against Ballarat Grammar could best be described as a stalemate.

In freezing and damp conditions, the first 15 minutes of the match saw St Pat’s fending off a much anticipated and determined push by Grammar.

Defenders Dil Shah and Ben Worthington and midfielder Cade Rieniets defended well with great tenacity, such that Grammar relented and allowed us the opportunity to find our confidence.

The rest of the match saw fast and flowing (if at times messy) football through the midfield, with each team’s back line abruptly and aggressively sending the game into the opposite direction, such that any real goal opportunities were few or desperate.

St Pat’s conceded one unlucky goal midway through the second half.

This, however, did not reflect the added determination and toughness shown by the team after half time. Replacement goal keeper Riley Cartledge played a great game as did defenders Jude Jeandet and Jayden Ashmore.

Final Result: BGS 1 – SPC 0
