Josh Coward earns Australian selection

July 19, 2015

Year 12 student Josh Coward has been selected to represent the Australian Youth 7s team at the upcoming Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa from September 4-12.

It will be the first time a current St Patrick’s College student has represented his country at any level in rugby.

In March this year Josh and Year 11 student Nicholas Donghi were named in the original squad to compete in the Commonwealth Games.

According to a letter from the Australian Rugby Union, Josh’s subsequent selection in the final team “has been based on his performance at the national 7s cahmpionships and squad training camps held from March of this year”.

Josh’s form this winter has been superb at all levels of tfe game and he has been a driving force in the St Patrick’s College 1st XV currently enjoying its best season of rugby in its history.

Following a weekend win over Geelong Grammar, the boys in the green, white and blue currently sit in second position on the Victorian Schools Rugby Union Division 1 ladder. This is a fantastic achievement considering it is the first year the College has competed in Division 1.

The College wishes Josh all the best for his upcoming national duties and encourages all in the wider College community to support the 1st XV as they seek premiership glory over the coming weeks and months.
