Junior School Report

May 13, 2021

By Mr Gavin Webb, Director of the Junior School

NAPLAN

Throughout this week the Year 7 cohort completed four literacy and numeracy tests under exam conditions. The boys are to be congratulated in the manner in which they approached the tests, as it was evident there were some nerves and apprehension. Being placed under a small amount of pressure like this will hold the boys in good stead as semester one exams approach. Boys who were absent on any particular day will complete catch ups on Friday, May 14.

Diaries

All students have now had their student diary for a number of months. The majority of boys have started to understand and reap the benefits of utilising the diary on a daily basis. It would be great if parents were able to discuss regularly with your son what homework there is and what is happening in each class throughout the week. Pastoral Care teachers will endeavour to sign the diary every week or two, parents please feel free to sign and/or write a short note in return. Learning how to be organised, manage time and meet deadlines are lifelong skills and habits that need mastering to be successful. Using a diary is part of this ongoing journey.

Year 8 Loreto Interaction Day – Wednesday, May 26

On Wednesday, May 26 the Year 8 boys will take part in the Loreto Interaction day. SPC will host Loreto, which is a change from other years where half the boys would walk to Loreto and we would host half the girls for the day. With no normal timetabled classes running until Session 7 and 8, it will be a great opportunity to socialise and interact with the girls, whilst taking in some key educational and lifestyle messages over the day. Thanks must go to Ms Briannah Walsh for all her work in organising the day.

Year 7 Retreats

Year 7 Retreats will occur in week 8 of Term 2 (June 7 – 11). The staffing and when each Pastoral Care group goes is listed below. No timetabled classes will run on the day and boys are welcome to wear casual clothes. More information to come closer to the date.
