Junior School Report

August 20, 2021

Academic Assembly

The College’s Academic Assembly (Chris Nolan awards) had been postponed to Tuesday, August 17. Obviously due to COVID restrictions we were unable to hold this assembly in its normal format on that date. It was decided to change the format, so we were still able to recognise the award winners. The awards were presented in the SPC Theatre on Friday, August 13 and was filmed, so parents could see their son receive their award.

As a College, we place great importance on recognising those students whose results have placed them in the top 15% of their respective year level. In addition to the Chris Nolan awards a new initiative this year is the “Academic Endeavour Awards”, these have been decided from compiling the “work habits” data from Semester One reports. This reinforces the value of effort and not just the result, a great life lesson. Well done to the award winners and I strongly encourage all boys to continue to strive to do their best, both academically and in their endeavour. Award winners are listed below.

STEM In Action excursion to Ballarat Tech School

As part of the Junior Science program, some Pastoral Groups in Years 7 and 8 have had the opportunity to participate in the “STEM In Action” program at Ballarat Tech School. The excursion offers students the opportunity to enhance their understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through participating in a series of STEM based activities. These activities are used to introduce STEM thinking to Year 7 classes and to support the STEM program running in Year 8 Science.

Thank you to Mrs. Young (Head of Science) and all the participating staff who have accompanied the Pastoral Groups on the day. In term 4 a number of other visits will occur, please keep an eye on PAM for more information closer to the date.

Closing remarks

The uncertainty from day to day with remote learning and COVID restrictions continues to challenge everyone, be it at home or at school. If your son is struggling with any aspect of his schooling and/or wellbeing please do not hesitate to contact his Pastoral Tutor, Year Level Co-Ordinator or myself at the college. We will do our best to support your son, with the understanding that as parents/guardians you are the primary educator of your son.

Regards

Mr Gavin Webb
