KRC Update

August 25, 2022

by Acting Director of Library and Information Services, Ms Ingrid Perkins

To coincide with St Patrick College’s inaugural Inclusion Week, this year’s Book Week was held in Week 5. Our theme, Dreaming of worlds beyond our own allowed us to showcase how great books allow the reader to look beyond their own experience of the world to consider the perspectives of others. Students and staff participated in activities which focused on spending time together and enjoying each other’s company.

Solving riddles quickly became more about collusion rather than inclusion as students teamed up to solve some truly challenging puzzles. Students and staff found this the trickiest riddle to solve: What 8 letter word can have a letter taken away and it still makes a word. Take another letter away and it still makes a word. Keep on doing that until you have one letter left. What is the word? (find the answer here).

Students designed theme related bookmarks, created Lego creatures and drew other-worldly monsters. Our busy week culminated with the KRC “design, build and fly a Paper Plane Competition.” While it is clear from some fleeting flights that not all of us are called to be aircraft engineers, the level of camaraderie and the spirit of good-natured competition between the boys is worth celebrating.
