Congratulations to Old Collegian Maurice Sheahan (SPC 1951-55) who recently celebrated an Associate Life Membership Award for the St Augustine’s Coolangatta/Tugan Conference.

Maurice joined the SVDP while a boarder at SPC, aged 16 years old, in 1953.

As young boys, the Vinnies visits included trips to the local hospitals and nursing homes, taking sweets and cigarettes.

Maurice carried on as a Vincentian into adulthood when working in the CBC Bank. When he became a manager, he was moved with his wife and children to various branches, each time joining a local St Vincent de Conference.

While in Newcastle where they experienced an earthquake, St Vincent de Paul became very busy for quite some time as many people were severely impacted.

After retiring in 1993 and having decided on a sea change, the whole family moved to Currumbin where Maurice then joined the St Augustine’s Conference – his first experience of actual in-home visits.

Vice President Barry Litfin and GC Regional president Garry Webb said it was truly a pleasure to present the Associate Life Membership Award to Maurice.

“We are so proud on the South Coast to have a Member like Maurice Sheahan, thank you (to Maurice) for the 72 years of caring and supporting our Companions and the Coolangatta/Tugan Conference”.
