Michael (Mick) Joseph Griffin (SPC 1952-53)

May 7, 2024

We were notified of the passing of Old Collegian Michael (Mick) Joseph Griffin (SPC 1952-53) back on 1 July 2021. Michael was a day student who was at SPC for two years, completing sub-intermediate B class, along with his brother Peter (SPC 1949).
We extend our condolences to Michael’s family, including his wife Carmel, children Maria, Cath, Gerard, Frank (SPC 1988-92, PY1993), John (dec) and Paul.
His funeral was held at St Augustines Church in Creswick.
Mick was remembered as an excellent father. His mother passed away when he was 12. He grew up on a farm in Invermay and went to Invermay Primary School before moving to St Columbus Primary when he was big enough to walk the four and a half miles (nearly seven kilometres). Mick attended St Pat’s for two years before leaving to help on the farm.
He drove trucks for the C.R.B. and his own business. He married Carmel Hynes in January 1968 and they had six children and remained together until Mick’s passing at the age of 83.

Mick was remembered as a great Catholic, volunteering for St Vincent de Paul for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Knights of the Southern Cross.
He served his family and community all his life and was remembered as being “always dependable, working for your family, friends and community”.
He was the Creswick Football Club treasurer in the early 1990s and after retiring, Mick volunteered to drive a bus for the John Curtain aged care facility in Creswick.
