Noel William Loughnan (SPC 1943-47, PY1948)

We have been notified of the passing of Noel William Loughnan (SPC 1943-47, PY1948), who sadly passed away on August 25, 2021.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Noel’s family and friends. He was a father and grandfather. Noel resided in Nathalia and his funeral service was held in Numurkah on September 1.

Noel was a boarder from Tocumwal and a talented footballer. He was a member of the 1947 First XVIII Football team and was described as showing “good form throughout the season. Comes through fearlessly and dashingly. A good mark and excellent kick”. He was also a member of the Second Rowing Crew in 1947 and a talented athlete, placing well in running, high jump and broad jump events. Noel was also involved in the Intermediate Literary and Debating Society and he spoke at one of their meetings in 1946 on “The Victorian Electricity Supply Scheme”.

He was a member of the Senior Football Team in 1946, which was named Champions of Ballarat Public Schools. Noel was also a member of the cadets, and a member of the Platoon No. 4, and the College’s Athletic Team. He was also a member of the McCarthy House Sports Premiers team in 1944 and Under 15 XVIII.
