Debating

The DAV debating season for 2017 is underway and St Patrick’s College has made a strong start to the season.

In Round Two, both of our VCE Grade teams were successful in their debates. Our Year 12 team featuring Ryan Dewar, Cameron Spedding and Callum Hofler won their debate against Ballarat Grammar School while our Year 11 team featuring Oscar Grigg, Xavier O’Shea and Ryan Mulheron were victorious against Damascus College. In C Grade, our Year 10 team featuring Damian VanGaans, Aidan Hanrahan and Matthew Duffy won their debate against Ballarat & Clarendon College. In D Grade, three of our teams won their debates while the other team had a narrow loss.

In Round Three, the VCE Grade teams will face the additional challenge of secret topics where they will only have their topic revealed one hour prior to the debate commencing. C Grade and D Grade teams will have advised or pre-determined topics.

I would like to congratulate all of the students involved in the debating program on their start to the year. I would also like to thank all of the staff who coach the boys for their continued hard work and dedication to help the boys prepare.

Performing Arts Tour

Next Thursday 30 March, thirteen students and four staff will be heading off to participate in our inaugural New York City Performing Arts Tour. While in New York City, the students will be participating in a variety of theatre workshops, will attend four Broadway productions, participate in a Behind the Scenes tour of a Broadway production and will be visiting many of the famous New York City landmarks.
