A Midsummer Night’s Dream

On Thursday October 20 and Friday October 21, our Junior School Production of -A Midsummer Night’s Dream- was performed in the Sir Bernard Heinz Theatre. The boys involved in the production did an outstanding job preparing throughout the rehearsal process and there was a great sense of excitement in the air during Production Week. Both performances were attended by sold out audiences who spent the evening laughing uproariously at the many one liners and sight gags! All of boys who were members of the cast and crew did a great job in bringing the show to life.

I would particularly like to acknowledge Marian Haddrick who directed the play. Marian did an excellent job working with the boys and I am sure that all involved in the production will look back on it with fond memories in the years to come. Thank you also to all of the staff who assisted with -A Midsummer Night’s Dream- by painting, making costumes, setting up sound and lighting equipment, supervising boys backstage during performances, selling tickets and in a variety of other ways. Your continued support is very much appreciated.

DAV Debating

On Wednesday October 26, our Year 10 debating team featuring Oscar Grigg, Xavier O’Shea and Ryan Mulheron competed in the C Grade Finals of the DAV competition against Lauriston Girls School. The boys did an excellent job in their debate however they had a narrow loss. Congratulations to all of the boys involved for being ranked the second best Year 10 debating team in Victoria. A fantastic effort!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff who have been involved in debating and public speaking over the course of the year. Thank you to Sarah Sharp, Jen Casey, Caroline Pruscino, Dionne Tually and Nathaniel Winfield for coaching teams this year.

Information about the 2017 debating season will be distributed at the beginning of Term One next year.

Student Rock Band to Perform at 2016 Kool Skools Awards Night

Congratulations to our student rock band, named “Quentiam”, consisting of Brendan Siebring (Year 11) and Year 10 students Jesse Keem, Xavier O’Shea and Oscar Grigg for being invited to perform at the 2016 Awards Night for the Kool Skools – a statewide songwriting and recording schools project. The boys will take to the stage at the Yarra Valley Grammar School in Ringwood on December 18. They also performed a couple of their songs at a recent Year 10 assembly. The boys, along with solo artist Marcus Evans (Year 9), have developed a CD of their original lyrics and music recorded at a – professional recording studio. The CD is an amazing collection of songs and is available to purchase at the College Shop for a gold coin donation. Well done boys.
