Rowing legends reunite

June 22, 2015

They are arguably the most famous rowing crew St Patrick’s College has ever produced and their boat hangs proudly from the ceiling in the main corridor of the school.

On Saturday, June 20, members of the famed “Drought breakers” – the 1990 Head of the Lake winning crew regathered for a reunion 25 years after their memorable achievement.-

Five-time Olympian Anthony Edwards came back to Ballarat to meet with fellow crew members Danny Hayter, Rob Calnon and Daniel Morgan and their coach Kevin O’Brien (the final member of the team Aaron McInerney was unfortunately overseas and unable to attend).

They visited the College and the Boat Shed before enjoying a night out on the town in Ballarat.

It was great to celebrate the silver anniversary of one of the most famous events in the College’s history.

Crew member Daniel Hayter said the men enjoyed a fantastic weekend of reminiscing and parting.

It was an honour to see five time Olympian, multiple Olympic Medallist and World Champion Anthony Edwards on the dance floor at The George at 3am,”‘ Hayter joked.

“Extraordinary core strength, one legged deep squats with side kicks whilst “twerking” at the same time. It was an honour to witness the recently retired legend go through his paces on the “d floor”.
