Rowing report 2014-15

March 28, 2015

The rowing program under the direction of Mr Peter Joyce (Director of Rowing) and Mr John Cumper (Coaching and Logistics) competed in the prestigious Head of the Lake on Sunday March 1.-

Full results are below and for the first time in three years SPC won the Premiership and took home the Harold Deveson Trophy. This now makes seven of the last ten years as boys premiers. As well as the race for premiership points SPC also were victorious in Year 9 Div 4 and 5.

The feature event on the day, the Head of the Lake, was won by Ballarat Grammar with Ballarat High School finishing second and St Patrick’s College in third position.

The College also sent three crews to Sydney in late March to compete in the National Rowing Championships.

Our 1st IV senior crew fought hard to win through to the final of the National Schoolboy’s Coxed Four event where they finished a highly credible seventh position. Once again we offer our sincere congratulations to Ballarat Grammar for winning the national title -“ showcasing the high quality of rowing we enjoy in Ballarat.

Significantly, it is also worth noting that the Victorian eights crew which won the coveted Kings Cup event at the national titles was coached by Old Collegian and former champion rower Christian Ryan (SPC 1992-95).
