SAGERS group presents petition to Federal Member for Ballarat

November 1, 2019

Students involved in the College’s SAGERS (Student Action Group Environmentally Resource Smart) Group were today fortunate to have the opportunity to meet with Federal Member for Ballarat Catherine King to discuss their concerns around climate change.

The meeting was organised following September’s National School Strike For Climate which saw students around the country protest in dozens of cities, calling for greater action to prevent climate change from causing irreversible damage.

While students from St Patrick’s College did not attend the protests, they instead drew up a petition in support of climate change action and have spent subsequent weeks circulating that petition throughout the College.

More than 300 students have signed the petition which was presented to Ms King this morning.

Ms King praised the students for their initiative and said she would table their petition in Federal Parliament.

Our students were also presented the opportunity to inform Ms King about their actions they are taking around the College grounds to increase awareness of climate change and to take steps to minimise the College’s carbon footprint.
