Sam stars at Nationals

March 25, 2015

Year 9 student Sam Williams has become just the fourth SPC student in history (and the first in 26 years) to win a national athletics title.-

Sam ran a personal best time in the final of the boys Under 16 1500m at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships at Olympic Park in March to claim the gold medal.-

Sam clocked a fantastic time of 4min5.38sec, to beat his nearest rival from Queensland by more than two seconds.-

The only three previous SPC students to win national titles were Steve Moneghetti (1980), Stephen McMahon (1988, 89) and Chris Howley (1989).-

Congratulations are extended to Sam and his coach, Nev Down, and all involved with Sam’s development through the Wendouree Athletics Club and the SPC athletics program.
