Senior School Report

November 13, 2020

by Director of the Senior School, Mr Hamish McCrum

Congratulations to Toby Clack and Ben Mornane (Year 10s) who have been accepted into the University of Melbourne’s Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program.  Well done boys, this is in recognition of your application to your studies over all years of your schooling, and will no doubt provide you with some fabulous opportunities and experiences.

Our Unit 3/4 exams are underway, having commenced with English.  The initial reports from the boys suggested it was a fair exam and they felt they had plenty to write about.  This sounds positive and is a credit to the boys who have stayed the course to the end, and their teachers who have gone on the journey with them.  We have seen many Year 12s onsite receiving help and guidance from their teachers and we encourage all students to take this assistance.

Our Year 11s and Year 10s will not have an exam block/timetable this year as they have in the past.  Those subjects still giving exams will do so in an “Assessment Week”: the week beginning November 23 for Year 11s and the week beginning November 30 for Year 10s.  There will of course be some assessments happening in other weeks.  This change was made to enable us to extract as much teaching time as possible for our classes due to face to face time lost.

Head Start Week for Unit 3/4 classes will now be in the week beginning November 30.  In this week students commence the work for 2021 and receive some work to do over the summer break.  Students will not necessarily have all of their text books, but having the new stationary items (books to write in) is very highly recommended.  Students not returning for Year 12 are not required in this week.

Take care and kind regards

Mr Hamish McCrum
