SPC Care – supporting our community in 2022

Caring and supporting our community is at the core of everything that St Patrick’s College does.

With this clearly in mind, the College’s SPC Care pastoral support program has aimed to provide a caring embrace to many in our community going through tough times in 2022.

A letter of thanks received by SPC Care from a SPC family this year.

By the end of the 2022 school year, SPC Care had provided care and support to nearly 150 members of the SPC community, including current families, Old Collegians and staff members.

This included members of our community suffering the loss of a loved one, battling significant illnesses, treatments, surgeries or terminal diagnoses, single parents going through tough times, families connected with the Loreto bus crash and others struggling through the impacts of the ever-present COVID pandemic.

Through home-cooked meals from our fabulous volunteers (made up of current parents, Old Collegians and staff members) as well as restaurant gift cards, grocery giftcards, family movie tickets, bags of groceries and offers of providing help in other practical ways or paying our respects by way of a card of condolence to a family on the loss of a loved one, we hope we have brightened the day or allowed the pain and suffering to dim for a little while, for those struggling.

As the coordinator of the SPC Care program, I would like to thank our incredible volunteers who offer their talents in many and varied ways to be able to offer care and assistance to others in our community when they are experiencing tough times and their darkest days.

The gift of a home-cooked meal, the generosity of fixing a leaky garden tap or the offer of sharing career knowledge, does not go unnoticed by the recipients, who often write to SPC Care offering their great thanks.

I would also like to thank the various members of the community who have donated to SPC Care this year. All proceeds go directly to helping our SPC community in very practical ways, to provide the most heartfelt care and support possible, depending on their individual circumstances.

If you would like to volunteer your time and talents with SPC Care, or you would like more information or perhaps you know of a member of our SPC community who may appreciate the support of SPC Care, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me on 5322 4442 or email lliston@stpats.vic.edu.au
